Help: Promoting Your Guild's Website
Updated on 2008/03/14

You've setup the guild website here (thank you!), things look great . . . and people haven't shown up. Why is that? How do you get people to visit?

Here are a few suggestions:

Post the guild's website URL in the the Message Of The Day in the game
People will see the URL when they sign on into WoW, or pull up the guild roster in game. Its always there, and members can easily get at it.

Only promote members who have registered first
This is a great motivator to register and visit. Remember to setup Registration Express Code for existing in-game members to easily register at the site without having to go through the entire petition process.

CONTENT! CONTENT! CONTENT!
Content is the single most important thing for getting people to visit the website and keep coming back. Don't let things go stale here. The forums are going to be your number one reason for members to come back.

Talk about anything and everything in the forums:
  • Raid scheduling (don't forget the event calendars here)
  • Guild Business
  • Jokes!
  • Post a screenshot from the raid, or that noob in battlegrounds, whatever! (upload that shot into the guild gallery..)
  • New WoW Machinma (remember, YouTube is supported in the postings and in the guild galleries)
  • New updates to the guild bank (there's the [bank] bbcode tag to link to the bank items!)
  • Guides to profession, classes, leveling, tips-n-tricks, whatever!
  • That cool new addon you found
  • The new epic item looted (there's the [item] tag so people can see the stats on it.)
  • New petitions for guild membership
  • The end-boss which was downed
  • Progress on rep grinding or attunement
  • Take polls on what the guild should be doing
  • Be creative! Not all postings have to be about WoW. Even weather in your area can be interesting..
Its really up to you as the guild founder, and the guild officers, to get the discussions going, and keep going. Consider posting several times a week. This helps to get the discussions flowing and to keep things fresh.

Remind your members, its easy to stay on top of the postings here. There are RSS feeds for all forums, and members of Premium Guilds may have new forum messages emailed directly to their account.

Award Ranks to Frequent Posters
Award your posters with ranks. The more postings at the website, the higher the rank. Remember, the game supports up to 10 ranks.

MORE CONTENT! GALLERIES, BANKS, EVENTS!
Again, content is key to a good guild website.

Use the galleries to post your favorite screen shot, or cartoon, or that YouTube video. Fill the guild's gallery up with stuff! Upload something to look at.

Guild Banks - make sure the guild bank is up to date so people can see what's available.

Event scheduling here is another good way for getting people to come back. Don't forget, new events are emailed to members.
